This Day in Mets History

1962- The Mets end their inaugural season with their 120th loss of the season, setting a new record. Joe Pignatano hits into a triple-play in his last ML at-bat

1973- The Mets beat the Pirates to clinch the NL East title thanks to Cleon Jones throwing out the potential winning run at the plate.

1979- Ed Kranepool hits a pinch-hit 2B in his last ML at-bat completing the longest tenure in franchise history of 18 years.

1988- David Cone throws a complete game to beat the Cardinals 4-2 to improve his record to 20-3. He joins Doc Gooden, Tom Seaver, and Jerry Koosman as the only pitchers to win 20 in franchise history.

1999- Rey Ordonez plays in his 96th consecutive error less game at SS breaking Cal Ripken's record. His streak will end at 100 games.
