This Day in Mets History

1970- The Mets purchased Dean Chance from the Cleveland Indians.

1975- Mets slugger Dave Kingman hits his 35th HR to set a new franchise record for homeruns in a season.

Rusty Staub becomes the first Met player to drive in a hundred runs in a season. A two-run HR accounts for the RBI's as the Mets beat the Cubs 7-5 at Shea Stadium.

1976- Tom Seaver beats the Pirates for the 2nd time in 6 days as the Mets win 6-2.

2006- The Mets beat the Marlins 4-0 to clinch their first NL East title since 1988. This was their fifth try as they lost to the Marlins and were swept in Pittsburgh, so they could enjoy the celebration in front of 46,729 at Shea.
