This Day in Mets History

1962- The Cubs beat the Mets and Al Jackson handing him his 20th loss of the season. He joins teammate Roger Craig and the only teammates since the 1936 Phillies to have teammates with 20 losses.

1988- The Mets clinch their 2nd NL East title in 3 years with a win over the Phillies 3-1.

1998- John Olerud walks to reach base 15 consecutive times to tie Barry Bonds NL record.

2000- Armando Benitez saves his 39th game of the season against the Phillies to break John Franco's team record
