Observations From Yesterdays Game

The biggest surprise from yesterday was Bobby Livingston who came in and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out 4 after Elmer Dessens was hit by a line drive. His stuff looked good, he had a nice slider that he used against the lefties, including striking out McClouth. He also had a nice changeup that he used against righties effectively, including striking out Yunel Escobar with it. I'm interested to see how he does the rest of the spring and yesterday should ensure he gets a look as the 2nd lefty in the pen.

The offensive star was 30-year old career Minor Leaguer Jesus Feliciano who was 2-2, SF, SB, BB. He is old but this guy is a Major League hitter, he has hit over .300 the last three years in AAA. He also played for Puerto Rico in the WBC and let off for PR in the Caribbean Series. All I'm saying is I think he could be a more useful option for CF then Gary Matthews Jr.

Ike Davis looked very good at the plate yesterday including a line drive double to the right centerfield gap. He also had a single against a lefty where he stayed in nicely. The lefty pitcher threw him 2 sliders for close balls and he didn't offer at them at all, very impressive for a young hitter.

Ruben Tejada had an RBI single while going 1-3. Tejada impressed me with his patience at the plate, his first two at-bats both when to 3 ball counts and he looked like a very disciplined 20-year old hitter.

Jason Pridie had an RBI single while also going 1-3. Pridie has had a nice showing so far combining this game with his homer off lefty Takahashi. (Pridie is a LH hitter) Another guy who can play CF and RF and would probably be a better option then GMJ, who by the way was 0-3, K and hit into a rally-ending DP.

Russ Adam gave the Mets some cushion in the 8th inning with a monster HR to RF in his only ab.

Bobby Parnell looked ok giving up a run in 2 innings, the runner who scored reached via BB. His velocity looked like it was there and for the most part his control as well.

Royota Igarashi picked up the save, walking one and allowing no hits in the ninth. He looked good, and it looked like he was throwing hard, but I didn't see him throw any splitters.

Unfortunately yesterday SNY didn't have the radar gun going so it was difficult to get an accurate take on how hard the Mets pitchers were throwing. Fernando Martinez is starting today so we will get to see more of him today.

By the way Tommy Hanson is the real deal, could win 15-18 games this year and Jason Heyward has a sweet stroke and has plus speed. Mets fans are going to have nightmares of these two for years to come.
