First lets look at the sure locks for the Mets bullpen to start the year.
Locks
- K-Rod- Closer
- Royota Igarashi- Set-up/7th inning
- Pedro Feliciano- LSP/Set-up
- Sean Green- RSP
- Bobby Parnell- 7th inning
- I'm assuming that Kelvim Escobar will start the year on the DL.
- Fernando Nieve- I think will get a spot because he will lose out to Niese for 5th starter spot. Throws hard and his stuff is more suited for the Pen.
- Clint Everts- Former First Round pick. Had 1.65 ERA last year in his first full year as reliever with the Nationals. Pitched 2 scoreless innings in intrasquad game.
- Tobi Stoner- A starter in the Mets system, saw 9 innings of relief last year with the Mets. Control pitcher with a Minor League whip of 1.21 and only allows 0.6 HR per 9 innings. Could be useful as a longman.
- Eddie Kunz- Struggled big time in AAA last year and really needs to turn it around to have any chance of making team. Running out of chances.
- Nelson Figueroa- Looked good in first start of Spring. Has strong possibility of making team as long man if he doesn't win 5th spot in rotation. I really like Figgy and would have no problem with him being long man.
- R.A. Dickey- Knuckle baller who has ML experience and experience pitching to Rod Barajas. Seems like a longshot unless Mets decide they want a change of pace. Pitched scoreless inning in intrasquad game.
- Elmer Dessens- Pitcher adequately last year but shouldn't make the team this year, with better younger options. Was taken out of first spring game after getting hit with line drive.
- Jack Egbert- Booted off 40-man recently.
- Josh Fogg- Known as the "Dragon Slayer", hasn't been any buzz around him at camp, don't even know if he is at camp.
- Carlos Muniz- Coming off arm surgery, has seen time with the Mets in 07 and 08.
- Jenrry Mejia- The guy everyone is raving about, has shown great potential so far in camp. At 20 years old and the history of being a starting pitcher I think the Mets should be cautious and start him in AAA as a starter. They should ruin his value by sticking him in the pen.
