Stories have been coming out this week about how much Mike Jacobs has improved his defense at first base and that he has impressed the coaching staff with his defense. Jacobs has also shown improved patience having less strikeouts then walks. Combine this the fact that Murphy hasn't been hitting at all and it looks like the Mets are going to give Jacobs the last bench spot and maybe some starts at first.
Today it was reported that the Mets asked Jacobs to throw on the catchers gear and catch Tobi Stoner's pregame bullpen session. This definitely seems like an indication that Mike is going to make this team.
I still would go with Chris Carter for the last bench position, but Jacobs power will be a welcome addition to the Mets bench.
