This Day in Mets History

1969-During an 11-run top of the ninth inning at Shea Stadium, Astros Denis Menke and Jim Wynn both hit grandslams. Jimmy Wynn and Norm Miller score on each bases loaded home run as Houston cruises to a 16-3 victory over the Mets.

1973- The Mets released Jerry May.

2001- Traded Rick Reed to the Twins for Matt Lawton.

2004- Traded Ty Wigginton, Jose Bautista, and Matt Peterson to the Pirates for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger.

Traded Scott Kazmir and Joselo Diaz to the Rays for Victor Zambrano and Bartolome Fortunato.

2006- Carlos Beltran hits his 3rd grand slam of the month to tie a ML record, becoming the ninth player to do so. It is also the Mets 6th as a team tying the record previously held by the 1996 Montreal Expos

2007- Traded Drew Butera and Dustin Martin to the Twins for Luis Castillo.

Former Coach Bill Robinson also died on this day in 2007.
