Mike Pelfrey Report Card

Big Pelfrey was obviously a disappointment this year while finishing 10-12 with a 5.03 era,
1.514 whip, and 10.4 H/9. He also saw an increase in HR's by 33% to 18, an increase in BB/9, and issued a very memorable 6 balks after never having one in his career.

Pelf was the only healthy starting pitcher the Mets had all season which is why he led them in starts(31), innings pitched(184), and groundouts(260).

Pelfrey has not only has problems with giving up lots of hits and HR's but he has complete mental lapses some games that completely ruined his ability to compete.

I think that next season Mike needs to do a better job of finishing off hitters with off-speed pitches and not allowing things like balks and errors get into his head. I think he if does that he will return to a winning pitcher with an ERA in the 3.70-3.95 area.

I'm going to give Mike a grade of D+ because he was able to stay healthy all year and the Mets could count on him to be out there every fifth day.
