This Day in Mets History

1964- The Mets signed free agent Jerry Koosman.

1974- At Shea Stadium, Benny Ayala becomes the first National Leaguer in 13 years to hit a home run in his first major league at-bat. The Mets rookie goes deep off Astros' hurler Tom Griffin in New York's 4-2 win. (www.nationalpasttime.com)

1992- The Mets traded David Cone to the Blue Jays for Jeff Kent and Ryan Thompson.

2004- Traded Dan Wheeler to the Astros for Adam Seuss.
